4th Grade Seminars
The following instructional seminars are being offered to all fourth grade students this year. Each group will meet 1 time a week during recess. There will be occasional homework and a culminating product that will be shared at the Enrichment Fair. Interested students will be asked to complete a mandatory homework assignment prior to beginning the seminar.
o Chess Club
This seminar provides an opportunity for students to participate in informal, “friendly” games of chess. Students at all levels are invited to join. Learn the game of chess, improve your game, learn chess openings and tactics, and spend time with other chess enthusiasts!
o The Green Team
The Green Team is an enrichment group where students learn to practically apply knowledge to solve environmental problems and contribute to improving their community. Students become environmental stewards and are actively engaged members of their community. The school becomes a living laboratory that models environmental practices.
o Zam’s Quest
Zam’s Quest engages, empowers, and activates students to learn about nature and take action to address local conservation issues. Using role play techniques, students are able to: understand different points of view in a conservation issue, successfully analyze an issue and discuss solutions, and understand the complexity of today’s problems. Cheetahs and Seahorses will be researched during this journey!
o You Can Do It
Students will work through the process of creative problem solving to solve difficult math challenges.
o Rube Goldberg
This study of simple machines will culminate with the creation of a complex machine that will unfurl a banner.
